Khayalethu & Tennyson House Projects have developed activities for Parents and Caregivers. These women, mainly, come from communities such as Pantas’ Hill in Durban and Ezinketheni in Pietermaritzburg. The Durban wing of the programmes has females who live and work on the streets.

Many have opted to do sex work for income. We will not divulge the females who have resorted to this type of work on the streets. The older and more senior women are just victims of poverty and sometimes abuse.

All these women have one thing in common, the reduction of poverty from their own lives. The Pietermaritzburg wing has begun some activities in business such as; poultry farming, eggs, small scale farming, sewing and stokvel. These activities are developing the females’ ability to make money and not be reliant on men. This will enable women to be safe from abusive relationships where money and resources are used for them to stay. Women are also learning to provide for their households and children.

Children are also learning that women can take care of their households.
