YFC/KZN has well researched & strategically developed projects that address social ills in the country, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal where we have our locations. We serve society with Early Childhood Development, Street Work, Children’s Shelters, Drug Rehab Services, Community Centres, Education Support, HIV/AIDS Work, Family Therapy, Lifeskills Development & Leadership Development through 3 main projects: Khayalethu, Tennyson House & Change Agents Projects
CHILDREN & YOUTH ON THE STREETS
Khayalethu (Pietermaritzburg) & Tennyson House (Durban) Projects work with children, youth & families working and/or living on the streets. We have also accessed peri-urban areas or informal settlements nearby cities to admit children into our YFC/KZN linked rehab services, our own shelters or place them with families or relatives. We also provide meals, play sport & recreational activities with them on the streets or in our City Drop In Centres in Pietermaritzburg & Durban respectively.
CHILDREN & YOUTH IN COMMUNITIES
We use Edutainment Team Approach for excellence in our work as well to run our community-based programmes. Our tried & tested Edutainment Team Approach that uses dance & drama is put into good use in the Community Centres & Drop In Centres we run for children of 06 -18 years old. We work in poor communities where parents/caregivers are away looking for jobs or cannot be present with homework support. Children then get an opportunity to attend our programmes. We provide them with meals, school uniforms, clothes, food relief vouchers during Humanitarian Disasters & counselling services. Our Out of School Youth programmes are also growing in leaps & bounds where we provide lifeskills, leadership development, parenting skills, technical skills & income generation development work.
